I thank all dignitaries here present for their prompt response to this clarions call to unity even in the midst of their very busy schedules and commitments. A call to unity is a call to progress, growth and development, building a more better society where we look beyond our titles, initials, indifferences and self-interest, but then, upholding, ideally the fundamental panacea for each individual’s self-growth and of course the yielding of the Land. In recent times, as a nation, we have been faced with several keen societal challenges which have drawn seemingly international attentions, frequently making headlines in both local and international news. Some of these challenges include, insurgency, tribalism, ardent poverty, communal clashes et al, with inverse effect truncating in no little measure, the growth and progress of our civil society.
At this point, this summit is indeed timely as it comes during a time our country is faced with economic recession and other vices which may hinder the continuous existence of a united Nigerian against the dreams of our founding fathers. Indeed intercessory prayers needful at a time like this. Therefore, as students, we owe the society the responsibility of awakening to this consciousness, that for an ordeal free society to strive in our dear third world, hence; unity must play a center yet vital role. “Make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace” Ephesians 4:3.
